Ilok is perhaps the most famous town in Croatia. This easternmost town in Croatia is renowned for producing some of the most expensive and famous wines. The city is located in the Syrmia region of Croatia, beautifully perched atop a hill overlooking the Danube River. The river forms the border with the Backa region of Serbia. Apart from its wines, the town is also known for being the home to a Franciscan monastery and the Ilok Castle, both of which are popular day trips you can take.

The town of Ilok has a unique landscape that produces the ideal conditions for wine production. In fact, the perfect conditions for wine cultivation were recognized right from the Roman and medieval times. As a result, Ilok has 1000-year-old wine cultivation and wine making tradition, and the Ilok Wine Cellar (Ilocki Podrumi) has been continuing this tradition.

In Ilok, there are over 990 hectares of the Ilok Wine cellars sprawled out over the beautiful plateaus of the western slopes of Fruska Gora Mountain, heading towards the River Danube. The town annually produces over four million liters of wine. The wines of Ilok have earned multiple awards, recognitions, and certificates over the years. With a massive range of wines, Ilok has many different varieties of wines you can choose from. There is the classic one Grasevina, Kapistran, to the more unique ones Traminer or Traminac, Grasevina, Rhein Riesling, Pinot Blanc, Kapistran Crni, Frankovka Rose, and many others.

Ilok is also known for its premium quality wines like Velika Berba, Traminac made from the high-quality traminer grapes, Chardonnay, Frankovka, and the Principovac appellation wines like Chardonnay, Traminac, and Grasevina. Wines with special attributes are the traminac - selected harvest, late harvest, selected berries harvest, ice wine harvest, and selected dried berries harvest. The wine boutiques of Ilok wineries can be found throughout Croatia and many other countries in Europe.

There are many ways to spend a day at the many Ilok wineries. For example, Ilocki Podrumi has a tich tourism offering. The Principovac Castle in Ilok that was originally built in 1864 to serve as a summer residence for the noble family Odescalchi, is today converted into a restaurant that has a rich gourmet to offer visitors. Apart from wine tasting, you can take part in cheese tasting, olive tasting and try out the famous smoked ham of Ilok as well.

The Principovac Castle is also a luxurious residence, and you can choose accommodation in one of the five luxurious and modern apartments in the castle or the one deluxe suite. All the rooms are located in a beautiful location on top of a hill and surrounded by vineyards. The country estate also offers a huge variety of additional facilities for sports and other recreation activities.
