Traveling to different places is undoubtedly the best feeling in the world. Whenever we hear the term traveling, we mostly visualize beaches, mountains, deserts, etc. However, there are places that are famous among travellers, but most people might not have heard about them. One such place is the Visovac Monastery in the Krka National Park, Croatia. If you are a religious person who loves visiting various churches, etc., around the world, Visovac can be a great destination for you. For those of you who don’t know, Visovac Monastery is actually an island in the Krka National park of Croatia. Let us now look at some of the few things that make Visovac worthy enough to be a part of your bucket list.

  • History of the place: As mentioned earlier, the monastery is probably the best part of Visovac Island. If you are wondering about the place’s history, it goes back to the year 1445 when the Franciscans found it. However, in the year 1576, the Franciscan monks arrived and started building a church over there.
  • Location and Building: The monastery is located in the middle of an island in the Krka National Park, Croatia. However, that’s not it. The main building of the monastery is adjacent to the clock tower. Both the clock tower and the main building are surrounded by cypresses. The best part about these cypresses is that they point towards the sky like swords, which metaphorically represents guarding the monastery. Well, that’s what the island is all about. The lake water which surrounds the island is protected by cliffs. The inclusion of all these things makes Visovac stand out when compared to other monasteries all over the world.
  • If you are someone who loves reading, the monastery has a lot to offer. You cannot issue the books since it is not a library. However, you get to see a lot of books from the ancient era. These include various historical manuscripts and some rare books too. Apart from this, you get to see various Christian books that hold a log of significance.
  • The Boat Trip: Now, this might not sound unique. However, the beauty of the lake surrounding Visovac will enhance your experience. The boat trip usually starts from the Skradinski Buk and lasts for two hours. During these two hours, you get a 30 minutes break at the Visovac Island.

So, if you are planning to visit Croatia, make sure that Visovac is a part of your itinerary. Most people visit the Krka National Park during their visit, and Visovac is a part of the Krka national park only. Some of you might be wondering if it is worth it to visit an island just to see a monastery. However, the vibe you get from the island is something you don’t get to feel everywhere. Also, the boat trip is the only option you have for visiting Visovac. Since the boat trip duration is 2 hours, make sure you visit all the places mentioned above.
