Rovinj

Situated on the Western coast of the Istrian peninsula, Rovinj is a quaint little town in Croatia. Perched on the north Adriatic Sea, Rovinj is a popular tourist resort and an active fishing port. What sets this city apart from others is that Istriot, an ancient Romance language, is still spoken by some residents of Rovinj. It is believed that Rovinj is the only city left in Europe where the citizens still speak the Istriot language.

Most visitors to this pretty little town spend two to three days here and take away its romantic charm, colorful streets, and beautiful sunsets and sunrises from here.

Being a small city, the best way to explore this colorful and picturesque place is to just walk through its streets. There are a lot of exciting places to check out in Rovinj, especially St. Euphemia Church. The St. Euphemia Church in Rovinj is located in the heart of the old town and is a Baroque church built between 1725-36. It was built over the remains of the ancient Christian structures. Dedicated to Saint George and Euphemia, the church is famous as it is home to the relics of St. Euphemia that are preserved in a Roman sarcophagus dating back to the 6th century. The church also houses numerous treasures and artworks, including Gothic statues from the 15th century, paintings from the 16th and 17th centuries, including Christ in the Gethsemane and the Last Supper.

You can climb up to the church's bell tower from where you can get a breathtaking view of the entire town. From the harbor, the islands to a complete 360-degree view of the landscape of this town. The top of the bell tower is also perfect for taking some of the most breathtaking pictures of the city.

While you are in Rovinj, you also need to check out Zlatni Rat or the Golden Horn. Named the same as the famous beach on Brac Island, the Zlatni Rat is a park located south of the city and is one of the oldest protected sites in Istria. You can enjoy walking in the park or cycling along the pebble beaches. It is possible to rent bikes for adults and children at the heart of Rovinj. There are many bike rental companies operating there.

You can also take a relaxing stroll along the small harbor of Rovinj. Catch sight of the many fishing boats, batana boats (which are flat-bottomed boats used by local fishermen), and small ferries. The harbor is also the perfect place to take pictures of the old town.

The old town, with its narrow, winding streets, is the best place to take a stroll through and take pictures. There are many small boutiques here that are perfect for shopping. You can also enjoy traditional Rovinj cuisine in one of the many restaurants and cafes located here. There are many hidden alleyways and steps that take you down to the water's edge.

Located right next to the harbor is Tito Square, which is another famous spot in Rovinj where you can clearly see the Italian touches in the architecture of the town.
